Noogie Night Volunteers (L-R) Joann
Lardizzone, Mary Goldenberg, Marlene Goldberg Mary, Marlene & Joann When someone in our family
or close to us has cancer, it is a very scary experience for most of us. It's
a time when we want support and information and friends no matter how old or
young we are. Noogieland was created to care for the youngest of our
community touched by cancer. It is a warm, gentle place to make friends, talk
about worries and have lots of fun together. It reminds me of a family picnic
– lots of food, people of all ages talking and sharing stories, playing
games, having contests, doing crafts and singing. I love the time that we
spend with the children alone, when they can talk amongst themselves about
the changes in their lives since cancer entered it. They are free to ask
questions and voice their concerns about a topic that sometimes is difficult
to talk about. Lori, our director, is the closest thing I have seen to a
living Snow White. The children love her for her kindness and endless ideas
for having fun. --Mary It is my pleasure to
volunteer in Noogieland! I love how the children have found friends who
understand exactly what they themselves are experiencing when dealing with
cancer. Cancer is a reality in their lives, but when they come to Noogieland
there is fun, laughter, discussion and camaraderie. No longer does a child
have to feel different or embarrassed because cancer has turned their life
upside down. --Marlene I love Gilda's Club
for many reasons! The children amaze me each week and we have so much
fun together. At times they are silly and other times, they get
serious. I feel so at home with them. Lori, Kathie, Marlene, Mary
and the other ladies are so talented and we all complement each other.
There is much to learn and to share. It’s one of my favorite days and I
couldn’t share it with nicer people. --Joann Attention breast
